Ambling

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: On Friday mornings
4th Friday

Walks are 3-4 miles and are quite gentle, with no steep hills and no stiles to climb over. Walking shoes or boots recommended and stick if applicable. Lunch is arranged by the organiser of the walk but is optional

Members arrange the walks on a rota basis and details of the walk and where to meet is sent out by email each month. Any car sharing is arranged individually by members. Dogs on lead are allowed but access to the lunch venue cannot be guaranteed.

At present we have 24 members which is about our limit but what sometimes happens is people ask to join but in fact never turn up so are removed from list after 3 no shows. This makes it difficult to say if we are full at any given time ..

There are signs of spring now in our recent walks.

We have enjoyed a year of interesting walks arranged by members of the group.

In September 2025 we had a  change from our usual format and took the train from Chester along the Wirral and walked to Meols. It was a perfect day - blue sky, sun and refreshing sea air. We enjoyed lunch and conversation at the Railway Tavern before getting the train back to Chester.

Last month (January 2026) we explored the Countess of Chester Country Park and canal path. Heavy rain in the days before the walk caused some flooding on our chosen route but, fortunately, other members knew a handy diversion, so we were able to continue.

We are a sociable group and walk on the 4th Friday of each month except December.
