Whilst training as a Green Badge Guide, Gail came across the stories of some amazing yet overlooked women in Chester’s history, and wanted to share them more widely. You’ll hear about some of the remarkable women who founded, defended, and helped shape our ancient city. From Phyllis Brown, our first female mayor after nearly 700 years of men only mayors; Mary Phillips, a suffragette who upset the visiting Prime Minister in 1912; Ethelflaed, who defended our city from the invading Vikings; to Curatia Dionysia, a Roman woman of note.
