Bernard Lockett will talk about the history and theatrical heritage of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan

Bernard will give an historical background and overview of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. He will talk about the musicality and genre of the works and their influence as forerunners of today’s musical theatre, and consider Gilbert & Sullivan's world-wide popularity in the 21st Century and its modern production values. The talk will be illustrated with videos of show excerpts.
Bernard Lockett is a a life-long enthusiast of Gilbert & Sullivan with special interest in the background to the works, their satire and precise theatrical genre. Since 2010 he has been a Trustee of the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival and involved with the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company that headlines the Festival annually at the Buxton Opera House and also in Malvern.
