Joanne Pike - Robot companion cats for people living with dementia
Research has shown the positive effects of robotic companion pets but, while this is important from a research perspective, their cost renders their widespread use currently unfeasible. Dr Joanne Pike is a Principal Lecturer at Wrexham University and spoke about her work looking at the potential of an affordable robot, with a view to making a realistic difference in quality of life for people with dementia living in their own homes and their carers. Research results involving participants in the community have proved positive, with some very touching stories from participants and their families.
