David Lomas - Chester Zoo - The First 25 years: George Mottershead and Family

Chester Zoo, founded by George Mottershead, will celebrate its centenary in 2031. This talk covered the early years of George Mottershead and his family as they overcome a series of setbacks before their arrival in Upton-by-Chester, having bought The Oakfield with its 7½ acres of overgrown gardens. There were further obstacles and challenges as Mottershead set about building his “Zoo without Bars” and laid the foundations for today’s 125-acre Chester Zoo. There were 98 attendees.
