The Baker Way – Walk on 6th June 2025
The Baker Way is a footpath running from Delamere railway station to Chester railway station, it has a length of about 21km (the total ascent is less than 200m). It was named in honour of James Baker, a former footpaths officer for Chester County Council. It is a mixture of canal towpath, footpaths, tracks (some in woodland) and roads (mainly when going through Tarvin). There are some areas of nettles! A long and interesting walk through a mixture of landscapes.

Peter Marshal from the Friday walking group will be organising a walk along the Baker Way, and we welcome all experienced walkers to take part.
We intend to walk from Delamere Station along the Baker Way back to Chester. We will be passing through Tarvin at about lunch time. There are shops and cafes there, but please bring a packed lunch. As the day may be quite hot, you must ensure you have enough water with you.
Towards the end of the walk, we will be walking along the canal into Chester. This is an opportunity, for those that wish, to stop at the Cheshire Cat for a drink.
We will be meeting at 8:45 am at Chester Station (near the ticket office) to take a train to Delamere. We will be getting the 8:56 train and you will need to purchase a ticket, so allow yourself time to do this before meeting with the group. (You may find it easier to meet us at Delamere Station – if you are coming and Delamere is more convenient, I will send details.)
Although the path is not difficult it is quite long if you are not used to regularly walking over 12 miles. Of necessity, the pace will not be slow.
